The three Districts which make up Girlguiding Ripon – Ripon East, Ripon West and Boroughbridge, stretch from Pateley Bridge & Masham to Burton Leonard and out to Boroughbridge and Kirby Hill.
We have many rural units meeting in the local villages, some units in church halls around the city and several who meet in our own Headquarters – Hazel House. We have 5 Rainbow units, 9 Brownies units, 7 Guide units, 2 Ranger units plus a Trefoil Guild! We are a varied lot.
However each year the Division gets together for various events. The swimming gala is the noisiest when we take over Ripon Baths for a couple of hours and the girls compete for the unit shields. The three Districts take it turn to organise a celebration for Thinking Day in February an we also have an annual competition for the Baslington and Hardisty Shields which can be anything from tent pitching to dance or cooking. Last year the competition took place in the glorious surroundings of Studley Park.
You will often see Guides and leaders helping or taking part in events in Ripon. We support Armed Forces Day, provided water stops for the Ripon Triathlon, take part in Remembrance Day, provide refreshments at Ripon Old Car rally, help at the Children’s Party in the Park, bag pack in super markets and many more.
Ripon has a tradition of international travel and in the last few years girls and Leaders have visited India, Switzerland, Mexico, Bulgaria, France, Belgium and other parts of Europe either with their own units or a part of a group from the County or Girlguiding North East England.
