Going away in Guiding

Going away in Guiding is often one of the most popular experiences for our members, and certainly one which provides the longest lasting memories!

Girlguiding North Yorkshire West is the perfect place to take your unit or to visit if you are coming from outside the area.

We have two properties within the County, Birk Crag Centre, close to the centre of Harrogate which is a great venue for unit residential and Hazel House which is the headquarters of Ripon Division and can be used for meetings or sleepovers / residentials.

Going away with Guiding need not be scary for girls, parents or Leaders – there’s always plenty of support, whether it’s your first time away from home or the first holiday you have led in Guiding. For Leaders, the ‘Going Away Series’ provides all sorts of notes, tips and hints to help make sure your unit holiday runs smoothly and everyone has a great time.

Finally, we are really lucky to have an active and enthusiastic Outdoor Team who can offer all sorts of activities. There’s lots of County equipment you can borrow, either for your unit holiday or just for meetings. To find out what’s available, or to enquire about borrowing or arranging some activity equipment.

If you’re planning to go away with your girls, don’t forget to check the Girlguiding Manual Online and inform your local Commissioner.
