Girlguiding Knaresborough Division is very successful and popular and currently has very active Rainbow, Brownie, Guide, and Senior Section Units.
We have been lucky to have the 1st Knaresborough Guide unit running continually since 1919.
Knaresborough has 4 Rainbow units, 6 Brownie units, 3 Guide units and there is also a recently opened Senior Section Unit.
Many of the older girls also help in the units for younger girls, thus passing on their enthusiasm and knowledge.
Annually the Division has many activities which encourage girls of all ages to mix and have fun.
In Knaresborough Division, Rainbows get together in the summer term for a Rainbow Romp.
Brownies have two Division activities; the first is in Spring, called Super Team – a competition between the units to compete for a shield which they can treasure for the year.
To take part each Brownie unit creates teams made from different aged girls, who complete various challenges.
The second activity is for all Brownies, a fun session, meeting new Brownies and making friends from all the other Brownie units in Knaresborough.
The 3 Guides units hold an inter-unit competition in the summer term for the Clegg Shield, which is greatly contested and prized when won.
As a Division we joined with many others across the country to celebrate 100 years of Guiding, with a Brownie trip to the Alhambra in Bradford to a Panto.
The local celebration was held at Rudding Park hotel, the younger girls saw a magic show, and the older girls enjoyed a disco.
Many Guides attended the national celebration at Harewood House which was a great day out for us all. Many joined with the County for the Finale of the Centenary year at Newby Hall, near Ripon to launch the next 100 years of Girlguiding.
All the units in Knaresborough have active programmes and are fully subscribed, with each unit happy to add girls to their waiting lists. So if there are any adults or girls in Knaresborough who have a little spare time and would like to get involved, please get in touch, you will be made welcome.
