Skipton & Settle

Spread over a large area, Girlguiding Skipton and Settle Division covers Lothersdale to Cowling, Skipton to Embsay, Threshfield to Gargrave and Long Preston.

We offer Rainbows from 5 years, Brownies from 7, Guides from 10 years and Rangers from 14. We’re particularly keen to help Young Leaders, (under 18) to train for their Leadership Qualification through experience in the units.

What do we do? Apart from having lots and lots of laughs, we have been earning lots of badges! We are proud to have developed our own Walking badge. Many Guides worked together on a cold and drizzly day to gain their Survival Badges, (lots of hot soup needed!)

We’ve been on lots of trips! We’ve been to Legoland and decorated Easter eggs at Wycoller National Park. We’ve made sausages in Crosshills and learned about space at Keighley College Star Centre. In Skipton we’ve followed a sheep trail, explored the woods and scared ourselves on a Halloween ghost hunt. Santa joined Brownies on a canal trip and shared a pizza with others at a local restaurant. We’ve eaten Chinese at New Year, had tennis lessons and sung around a campfire in the woods.

We love having visitors! Some lucky girls have been visited by a yoga tutor, baby hedgehogs, ferrets on leads, an equine student, beauty therapist, hairdresser, dance teachers and St. John’s ambulance staff.

We love holidays! Members of nearly every Brownie and Guide Unit will have the opportunity to holiday together at our Division camp/holiday this summer—many Leaders will soon have their holiday or camp licences, so that even more girls can go away regularly in the future.

We have fun every meeting through arts and crafts, games, outdoor adventure, community action, imaginative play and problem solving.

Within the Guiding ethos we aim to develop each child’s knowledge and skills of herself, her community and the world about her so that she can grow with confidence and find her place in the world.
